It is a cold morning, and was quite sharp when I took Henry to nursery this morning. and when I did my run. I do find the cold mornings very difficult to get up and get going, but it is the knowing that I have 5 hours and half of free time to get stuff done, so that is what motivates me to get going.
I am having a lovely cup of Cadbury's hot chocolate. A must this time of year. I created a new way of having sausage and mash, a sausage, and onion, mash pie. LOVELY. I just wanted to pre-cook my dinner on Wednesday and thought, why not do that.
I will make this again next week, so I can post a picture of it, next time.
However I have seen that others have made a similar version to this meal I made, see photo below from Good To Know website recipe page. This is a sausage and mash bake. Click here on link to see that recipe:
I did a version for my son too, but using sweet potato, as he isn't keen on white potatoes.
I cooked the sausages off first in the oven for about 20 minutes or so, conventional oven at 200 degrees.
Pre-boiled the vegetables and the spuds. I always freeze my vegetables even when bought fresh. Great way of them lasting longer.
Then once all cooked off, I kept the sausages in their trays. Cooked of the onion so they are golden and softened. I put these on top the sausages, I used vegetable oil and onion water into the jug, plus water from both potatoes, to make the gravy with some Bisto Gravy Granules.
Then poured this on top. Allowed to cool, I then created mash with both types of potato, using butter and milk (whole milk), then after about 30 minutes to an hour, put the mash over the top.
I put them in the oven when we were ready to have our dinner, in the oven at 200 degrees for a further 20 to 30 minutes.
We had this with some broccoli and carrots.
Optional: Can add breadcrumbs on top or even mashed carrot.
It was so easy and effortless, but tasted lovely.
So if you have any favourite recipes which you have re-created please let me know. I would love to give them a try too.
Remember that I do also have a midweek blog, which has been updates, so check out my other blog website:
