Hey all, having a few problems with getting on the internet, hence why I am writing my start of the week blog now.
I am also trying out an ASDA chocolate cake mix, I will post picture on my Instagram once this is done, so I am going to make sure I listen out for my timer to go off.
It is 5 days away from when I and my mum take on the 25KM Thames Path Challenge Walk. I am walking for Help For Heroes and my mum is walking for The British Heart Foundation.
Please see our JustGiving pages:
I am so glad Strictly come dancing is back on. along with the Great British Bake off and Cold feet is back on tonight.
My friend who I have known since school is working on Strictly Come Dancing this year so makes it even more exciting.
It was so great to see Jay McGuiness and Aliona Vilani do their jive again, and my husband decided he would turn into a judge as he was like "He's already gone wrong". He was never going to top of that very first performance from last year and is my ultimate favourite moment from the Strictly shows.
See below the Youtube video of that amazing performance from last year. It still gives me goosebumps and I want to get a picture of that performance to put on my wall as it always makes me smile.
Me and my son, Henry had a lazy day today. The weather was miserable so thought that me and my boy would spend some mother and son time, playing indoors. I hope the weather is better tomorrow so we can go outside.
It can be tricky to entertain your children when it is miserable and raining. So we spent it playing with his toys in the living room. Henry said a new word today "Building" he ate the majority of his breakfast by himself this morning. We played upstairs and we both did some reading, he loves his books. Then when daddy came home it was his turn to entertain our son.
It was my niece's birthday party yesterday, who turned 9 so I managed to get out of work a little early to take a trip down to my Step Dad's school where she was having her party. I suddenly felt a bit unwell part of yesterday evening and I think it may have been the Latte I had in Cafe Nero. I was fine until I had that, and I have kept away from Caffeinated Latte's due to having a bad reaction before and now will have Soya Latte instead since my mum accidentally got me one and I actually find they are a lot better as they are less heavy. Me being a wimp didn't ask for that in case they didn't do Latte's with Soya which thinking now they probably due being a coffee shop, only Costa's where I usually get my Soya Latte I know do them, but I should have asked.
So from today I decided to have a bit of a detox and stay clear of milk and normal tea, and have honey and lemon as my first drink in the morning and drink my herbal teas, as I do have quite a few so a good excuse to use these up. I got to say I do feel a lot better. My last was Fennel, which is a natural cleanser and no caffeine in those tea bags at all and very nice and soothing to drink. I don't feel bloated at all like I normally feel so going to stay away from normal cows milk and if it does make a difference go on to Soya milk which apparently I used to drink as a baby, due to having an allergy to cows milk.
Perhaps I am Lactose Intolerant as I do often feel like a got a constant stomach ache, so if you feel the same it is worth seeing if it is to do with what you currently eat.
Anyway going to end blog here as got my dinner to finish and I will blog again at the end of the week.
Many thanks for reading,
Hi Everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. It was so good to see so many British Sports men and women do well this weekend at the Olympics, it has been amazing Sunday for Team GB. I am going to make sure I watch some events tonight as I did miss some over the weekend due to working and for some events being on so late. Nevertheless it hasn't stopped me from feeling proud and patriotic. Everyone should be proud of where they come from.
The football season has also started and it was great to see Gary Lineker in his pants presenting Match of the Day, which I watched on Sunday morning, not as nice as what he was back when he used to play football himself, but I still wouldn't kick him out of bed.
He was one of my pin ups on my wall as a kid, when everyone else had Take That or East 17 posters on their wall.
When my husband was driving me back home one Sunday after picking me up on route from work, a song from the 90's came on the radio from that era, which was going into the early 90's and always reminds me of that time.
See video below of this song, it was a One Hit Wonder, but a great song from that decade.
Today I did a bit of dusting of the Windowsills and some units in our bedroom as they do get dusty very quickly and with Henry's Hayfever and Eczema it is important to keep the home dust free as much as possible and my hubby does really help with that. He helped dust the living room and bathroom for me, so saves me a task.
I do think it is a lot easier when you can share the chores. Balancing work, home and parenthood can be tricky, but every little bit does help whether it is cleaning one item or area a day. I have stopped stressing over not getting everything done as it is wasted energy and I know I will get it done. I read in a book called Thrive (see my book reviews) a couple of months ago and it made a great point in that, no one is remembered for their cleaning skills or for the fact they managed to stack the dish washer every day but for their personality and value they added to people's lives. I just make sure that if I do get a spare moment to clean an area or a work top, then I will.
I did clean Henry bath toys today, an item on my list that was overdue and it is important that this is done as water can become stale and turn into mould if not careful. This can cause unnecessary odour and germs.
I waited nearly over and hour in the doctors as I was concerned that Henry cold was turning into a Chest Infection again, but it wasn't and so he is fine. I think he has a mixture of a cold and Hayfever like I had a few weeks ago.
I also caught up on some TV I missed over the weekend and today, so watched Dragons Den from last Sunday and Loose Women from today. I do like having that bit of time to catch up on my TV. I don't watch a lot to be honest, there are just some certain programmes I will watch when they are on, they are like two or three programmes.
Anyway going to end the blog here for the start of the week, as I have dinner to cook for my hubby and I, so have a good week everyone and I will blog again on Friday.
Many thanks for reading,
Hi start of a new week, I doubt I would ever do this as in the image, but a new week spells new week to have fun.
Now Henry my son has more energy now and is more aware, saying more words and mimicing more, he wants to be out and exploring. So before the nights and mornings start to get dark later in the morning and early in the evening, I want to make the most of each week.
It is also pay day so before I pay anything out I will need to sort out my finances. If you have read my recent blogs, you would have read that I am trying to be the super saver again. I have managed to save quite a bit. I have had those urges to splurge but have had the willpower to hold back.
I think to myself when I get the urge is, how will I feel if I buy this item?
Happy or regretful?
Then I picture my savings and how that will look in my bank balances and budget. It has made me really be more caring and controlled with my money.
Music I have been listening to is Starship, We Built This City, Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now and Bette Midler, The Wind Beneath My Wings. They are such fill good songs, and I love summer songs like Smooth Operator and Wishing on A Star. They always make me think about the years my family and I when I was a kid would go to Menorca with other families and friends, who we knew and saw regularly. They were such fabulous holidays, that I used always get the holiday blues when it came to going back home.
My holiday essentials are:
Be good to hear of what your holiday essentials are and what you always have to take with you when you go on holiday.
It is that time of year where most people will be going on a holiday of some sort. I love that buzz you get the week before, the night before and in the morning when you are off to the airport.
So to all those off on their holidays or who are already begun their holiday. Have a great one and safe journey there and back.
Many thanks for reading,
Hello and welcome to another blog. Posting on my Monday Check-in page which I haven't done for a few weeks. If you have been following my blogs you would have seen that I am now be very tight with my money as I am trying to be the supersaver I once was. I think I am finding her because by now my account would be almost down to zero, which it isn't and I have money still to spare.
This spent this week £40.12, but this was due to the items I bought online. Some items are a better price when bought online than when you buy them from the high street. I do have a separate budget to what I spend weekly to what I pay online but even when I was purchasing items from Amazon, I was being very cautious as to what I bought and how much. If I go by just my weekly budget I actually only spent £16.80, which is good and feels great.
There have been a lot of things I was already doing to save money, but by my splurging on items I didn't need, was counteracting against what I was saving.
Ways I have already been doing to save money:
Sorry that I have sent this twice, but first time it didn't include the extra bits I had added. Talking about going Digital when planning and doing To Do lists. I wrote a blog on this a few weeks ago. I did this for about a week, and reverted back to writing it all down. I find that, writing it on paper is the preferred method for me, I am a bit old fashioned in that way. I have to have it written for it to go into my head.
To those who like to keep it all stored on your phone, then there are some great APPs to use, but I would always recommend a back up. Have it written somewhere or kept on your computer or tablet aswell as your phone, just in case you lose your phone or your phone decides to brake.
Anyway going to end blog here. Have a good week ahead and I will blog again on Friday.
Many thanks for reading,
So first of all, I would like to express my sadness over the terrible attack in Orlando, USA, and my condolences, to all those who lost someone or was injured in such an unimaginable event. I can not imagine what it must be like to know that the person you know and love isn't coming home. It does put fear into me, like others, but we must not allow anyone to stop us from enjoying the things we love, and we must continue on. I am not going to let anyone stop me from living my life and going about my business just because someone wants to commit a cowardly act.
RIP to those who lost their lives and I pray that these terrible acts stop.
Focusing on other things, getting up early every morning took its toll on both my husband and I this weekend gone, so if there are mums and dads who are feeling the same this morning, I support you. I have no idea how I managed to walk to work on Sunday, it seemed like the longest 3 miles I have done, and today I could have slept for a week.
When reading Henry his bedtime story this evening, "The Rabbit Who Wants To Go To Sleep" it seemed that Henry suddenly perked up and I was ready to snooze. I still got my husband and I's dinner to do. Then I am going to read my book and then sleep.
I have been watching the Euros. Well done to Wales I thought they played with real spirit and determination. England. Well, I am going to wait to see what happens there. Since watching England play for a good number of years, I have learned that it is better to wait and see, as you just never know what is going to happen and if they turn up or not. I have shed many a tears for England over the tournaments I have watched and now the tears have all been washed out.
Following on my Friday Blog I have also been trying out some new APPs, be careful. Some APPs available are sneaky making out that there are certain features available, when actually you download it and install, to then find out you have to pay extra to receive those features.
I will write more about this on Friday and tell you which other ones I have been using.
Until then have a good week everyone and stay safe, but don't forget to live you life aswell.
Many thanks for reading,
A start of another week, last Friday I hadn't realised it was Friday and so thinking I had one extra day until work at the weekend whilst out with my son, I see on my phone it says the Friday May the 6th. I thought at the time that can't be right. So when I got back home I checked the time on the TV and yes it was Friday. So thinking I had a extra day, I was truly disappointed that the week was close to finish.
This morning I get up change my sons nappy, then I get him up so he can have a run around and see daddy, whilst I made a cup of tea, the first cup I spilt everywhere on the worktop and then after my son had his breakfast and watching a few episodes of SpongeBob whilst he had his brekkie and then watched a few YouTube videos, I go and make another cup.
I hear whilst I give my husband his other cup of tea, my son chucking something about. So thinking it could be the remote controls, my husbands tablet or one of his toys, I come down and see that my son is chucking his cup about and there is water all over the living room floor.
So I then take him upstairs and put my son back into his cot whilst I clear up the water, because I know he will try and get in the way and think it is a game. Also in case he slipped as we have a wooden floor in the Living room. So not a great start of the day, and I didn't sleep well last night either, just couldn't get settled.
My little man had really red eyes yesterday and runny noise, so think he may have had an allergy to some sun cream or pollen, as he was playing out in one of the big parks on Sunday with my mum who looked after Henry for the afternoon. We gave him some baby and toddler anti-histamine medicine which seemed to do the trick, apparently children who are prone to eczema are also prone to allergies and hayfever. So we will have to keep and eye out to check him just in case.
I had been reading that certain foods can really help with sufferers of eczema such as oily fish, nuts and seeds and vegetables, so we are going to cut some foods out such as those with refine sugar, so no crisps or chocolate as we are guilty of given him those, not all of the time but now and then, and see how he is.
I report back and let you know how our son is. His eczema isn't too bad this year, compared to what it has been, and I think given Henry a healthy diet, a variety of foods has helped, and keeping notes of any foods that he has had an allergy too has made a difference.
Parenthood doesn't come with a set of instructions so sometimes you do what you can, and some of it is trial and error. I do think that because of social media there seems to be a lot of people who want to criticize other parents, but we all know that we are human we will make mistakes, we won't always get it right so lets be a bit more united when it comes to parenthood as knowing you have a good support system there should you need help, helps us parents to stop putting to much pressure on to ourselves and enjoy it.
Anyway going to see what I can get done before my son wakes up as he is having his nap.
Have a good week and many thanks for reading,
Start of another week ahead.
Watching 24 as I am typing my blog for today and it appears more conspiracy is happening. Had a good day on Sunday as got to finish work early and meet my hubby and my son, to go for a coffee and a walk through the Park.
There was a time when Sundays to me were boring, back in the day when nothing used to be open apart from Off Licences and Newsagents so people could collect their Sunday papers. Most shops would be closed and my dad would play his records in the morning whilst cleaning them, we'd be made a Bacon Sandwich and my dad would then go off to the pub, and we would then follow and meet him down there later.
How much life has changed. Sunday's are like another day to many people now, one reason why I love walking through the Commons to work at the weekend especially on a Sunday, away from the hustle and bustle. I use Sundays to take my time and chill, and to get some bits done before Monday.
It is also a day that I like to chill in front of the TV with my husband and son. I love a Sunday roast or having our themed Curry Sunday every now and again. We had that yesterday and was so nice to chill with a curry whilst watching the TV.
I didn't sleep well in the end last night, but I manage to get through the day and now going to catch up on my sleep to prepare myself for the rest of the week ahead.
Have a fab week people and see you at the end.
Many thanks for reading,
Today was Napping day according to the website https://www.daysoftheyear.com/
I got to say I have never been so thankful for sleep until I became a parent, as you realise how valuable sleep is, as that is what babies do a lot of the time when they are first born, as this helps them to grow, and become big and strong.
It really gets to me when I don't have a good nights sleep myself.
I wrote a blog some weeks back now, about getting up late one weekend, as I had a bad nights sleep and how just having that extra time made all the difference, and I have stuck by that, as now I don't get up so early to go to work now, when I know I don't need to. I make sure I at least get some sleep, even though Saturday nights because I know I have work on Sunday, I don't always sleep well.
I will most evenings come off of electronic devices, my computer, tablet or phone, and wind down ready to go to bed a sleep, as our bodies needs it, and lack of sleep can lead to lack of concentration, weight gain, not getting stuff done and I have been so tired some days in the passed and felt really sick because of it, and lack of sleep can effect our immune systems.
Young children need about 12 hours a sleep depending on age, where we need 8-10 hours a sleep, I am someone who naturally can only sleep between 2-4 hours, some nights. There are a lot more nights now where I can go back to sleep some after my usual 2-4 hours, but some nights I can;t. So I will make sure that at some point I do catch up, for my son's sake so I have the energy to be able to make sure he uses enough energy and interaction aswell as for myself, as I believe that good sleep does help with good health, which is important to me, more than ever, aswell keeping fit.
So here's to Napping day.
Have a great week peeps.
Many thanks for reading,
So Elv (husband) and I went out on Friday, but was still indoors by 8:30pm, we just got so tired due to the week we have had, well I would say two weeks.
However looking at the things I have enjoyed this passed week, I have been playing "We are the World" USA Africa, which was first produced and released in the 80's.
You know when you have reached a peak in your age, when you can say that I remember the first time this record or cassette tape, back then, came out. CD's were really expensive back then, and there were no streaming or downloading, or apps back then.
There are records for me that will never grow old, and what I love about this record is the combination of Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen, two totally different voices but their duo in this song is just a "goosebumps" moment; It hits right in the centre of your heart and you can feel the sound all through you, and you think how these two can work together, you'd think on paper they would clash, and all the voices in this record for that matter, but the way it was produced and put together was brilliant and the same for "Feed the world, let them know it's Christmas time" the British Africa song, which came out in the 80's at Christmas Time and is still being played today.
The combination of some great artists who have created memorable everlasting music on their own. One mans mind and imagination, created a legacy that will go on for years.
I have always loved music and it is something that can change your mood instantly and take you away from all the troubles you have had, just in that moment.
Many thanks for reading, and have a great week peeps,
