A book with a bit of history and how times were so different back to when this guy, who tells his story of being a Secret Child, was when he was a young boy. Gordon Lewis whose first name was originally Francis is kept a secret by his mother for nine years. Cathleen, being a Catholic in Ireland, and having a child outside of wedlock knew this was a sin, and could have had her child taken away from her. She finds a Hostel, which is very welcoming to young women who have fallen pregnant outside marriage. A safe Haven for the ladies in Ireland so they can bring up their child. When she first arrives she does finds it hard to adjust, but working as many hours as she called as a Waitress, finally tries to make hens meat and get her and Gordon away to start a new life in England.
However the dream of a better life in England does not start off well. Gordon is relieved to have find out about his passed and remember more about it, as some of his memories had slipt away as he got older. A really great read, and well written. Makes you feel grateful to life as it is now, even though there are still those living in poverty, least women don't have to hide away when they have a child when they aren't married or with the biological father. I would rate this book 10 out of 10.

If you like a book that makes you laugh and is true to life, then this is the book to read.
Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by the Author or any publisher for writing this review. I bought the book for my own personal use, to read. It is the story about the Author Cari Rosen's who has become a mum at 43 and quarter and knows of the prejudice there is as an "Older mother". That she is selfish to want kids now at that age, why not have a child when you are younger. She is aware of the risks there are of having a child in your 40's. She just never met the right person back then when she was younger to have a child, and now she has met "Mr Right" she now has her dream of becoming a mum. She so happens to be in her 40's. There was one part that really made me laugh out loud, not going to say which bit. Do not believe in being a spoiler. It just played back my own experience which was similar to her's the way she tells the story and her thoughts and fears at the time. I was like "Yes that is so true". If you are a mum like me and two more years and I will be the big 4 0, then you will enjoy this book as much as I did. So glad I found this in a Charity Shop Challenge and is available on Amazon too, to read. I would give this book at 10 out of 10. If you got a holiday coming up and want a good book to read, this one I would definitely recommend. |
