I have also written a new blog on my other website on Wordpress, updating my readers of that blog about what I have learned as a new parent, given an update now my son is years old. https://cazzachalloner40.wordpress.com/
I wanted to wait to post my blog this week because I had to take Henry to a few appointments, as he had an hearing test on Monday and then we visited a Nursery today, which both my hubby and I both really like. I am not going to give details of which one, because of child protection, but we both believe it will be the one for Henry to go to.
The hearing test went well. The Audiology specialists at the health clinic were really good and not too concerned but they just want to do another check in a few months time just to make sure.
My advise to other mums and dads who are worried about your child's development to speak to your health advisors or GP as they are there to help and will refer your child to be seen, and they have created these tests for your child so they don't feel any discomfort or anything. At the hearing test they got Henry to play with toys and had speakers that made a little noise and if the speaker lights up they will see a cuddly animal. Henry had a cuddly cat and a rabbit.
They then used an ear checker thing to look into his ears to check to make sure there is no infection or inside issue, or if the ear has fluid, this takes a couple of seconds. Your child may fidget but I tried to distract him and the specialists were very quick. I know it isn't nice to have your child crying because they still learning so they are gonna be a little bit like "Why have I got to sit still, and why are they putting that thing in the side of my head" because aren't sure what this is all about, but it is good to have their hearing checked just in case if you have concerns.
We are not overly concerned with Henry but the Health Advisor called to ask us if it was ok for him to be referred to have a hearing test, just to minus this out and so we agreed. We are not concerned in anyway as he can hear well but I think it good to check if the health advisor advises it. I got to say I have had more trust in the health visitor than my own GP, at times. There has always been someone there to call or speak to, not a receptionist telling me I can't have an appointment. He will be having speech therapy at some point, but I know Nursery will really help with this. I am learning as a parent that a lot of the time Henry will do things when we aren't (my husband and I) paying attention to him, and so they will do things when they are ready too and tend to do things when not asked too.
He is picking up a lot of words now, so we will have to really be careful about swearing.
If you are looking for a nursery then the questioned we asked was:
- How many children do they have at the moment?
- About Safety and Security
- What happens in case of an emergency and Henry does get hurt?
- Do they do regular fire checks?
- What happens if the child is not settling in?
- About food and the routine, aswell as costs and guarantee of a place.
My husband and I are new this too, and parenting is as new to us as it is for our son learning what things are and what words mean, I have come to realise that it ok to be new at some things, and with life you are always learning.
I never would tell other parents what they should or shouldn't do, because all children and everyone's situation is different. What I want to do is try and give help and advise based on what I have learned so far, as it is comforting to know sometimes that you are not the only one who is new to this. I think about my parents and my grandparents, it was all new to them once, it is all about persistence, trusting your instinct and asking for help, as we aren't made to know everything, but learn and do the best we can.
Many thanks for reading,
Today was such a lovely day being out in the park and playing out in the garden with my son Henry.
It was also great to come home after being out in the morning and chilling, being able to have some lunch and have a nice cup of tea with it.
Now I am updating my blog for the start of this week whilst my husband plays on his Tablet, and we have Only Fools and Horses on, on UK Gold.
I am not one for soaps but I do like my catch up TV as I have certain programmes I watch, such as I enjoyed The Voice (UK) this year with Boy George being one of the Coaches, Loose Women, Strictly Come Dancing when it is on, I enjoyed the Night Manager and we have been watching the Box Sets of True Blood and 24 that we can download from our Sky box.
I do look forward to my evening meal. It is the one meal I always plan and make sure I have a good feed before I wind down for the end of the day, ready to go to bed.
Quick way of baking jacket potatoes:
> Prick the potatoes with a fork all the way around the spuds
> Put in a saucepan of water so the water covers the potatoes
> Put on hob, medium heat for 45 minutes
> Preheat oven on 180 degrees
> Drain potatoes and put in a baking tray and cook in the oven for an hour to an hour `15 minutes
You can prepare and cook before hand, just cover in tin foil to keep in the heat and keep them warm.
Anyway I hope tomorrow is also a nice day, and I will blog again on Friday.
Have a good week everyone.
Many thanks for reading,
Hi all, I didn't blog on Friday as we had some of my hubbies family down and so my hubby and I were sorting stuff out ready for when they arrived.
It was a good weekend apart from a little bump in the road on Saturday evening, and had a great time up London on Saturday during the day, at our favourite place the Southbank in London.
I have filmed this in My Days In Life video which I will be filming all this week until Friday,
Henry was taken to a new Nursery that has opened up near where we live and he loved it, I think he is ready too start nursery. I do think from what I have learned so far being a parent is that it is good to start getting them to do their own thing and go to a nursery to help build their independence as children will copy other children, it helps them with their social skills and improve their development.
Henry had his 27th month health check and is going to have speech therapy, which will help him as I do still think because he was born premature that he has some catching up to do, as I can see that there a lot of skills that he is advanced in like social interaction, he is very engaging, he is very observant, but he just lacks listening to orders, he will at times, but not always and speech, as I can see when he gets frustrated when he is trying to communicate to us and we aren't picking up what he is trying to tell us all the time.
I think him joining a nursery will really help with this, along with having speech therapy.
I am loving the fashion I have been getting to see through the Freemans Sales Magazines this year. Please check their website out: http://www.freemans.com/web/main/home.asp?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=brand_brand&utm_term=[freemans]&ns_clid=google,88880832,4173233952,[freemans]
I had a look in New Look today as I am looking for a new going out top, and they had some lovely pieces, and there was a light blue beach/shopper bag, that caught my eye. I would recommend to check them out.
Disclaimer: Not sponsored by any of the retailer mentioned, they are stores I regularly check for their fashion and purchase items from.
I have completed my Charity shop challenge for March and filmed my Mother and Baby video. I did film my Mother and baby video the last two months but lost videos due to my computer hard drive going faulty and so lost all this footage.
Anyway I will be putting what I videos I do have still up on my YouTube channel soon and when I do I will add them to my website aswell. So keep viewing as there is more to come.
Many thanks for reading and have a great rest of the week.
